Susumu Yamada, Narimasa Sasa, Masahiko Machida et al. received an award at the HPC in Asia Poster Session.

On June 22, 2016, Susumu Yamada, Narimasa Sasa and Masahiko Machida, from the Simulation Technology Research and Development Office in CCSE, in collaboration with Yusuke Hirota and Yoshiyuki Imamura from RIKEN’s Center for Computational Science (AICS), received the ‘ISC 2016 HPC in Asia Poster Award’ from the ISC High Performance Conference, held in Frankfurt, Germany.

ISC High Performance is an international conference held yearly that covers topics on supercomputing and high-performance computational science. The prize for the HPC in Asia Poster Session is awarded to the best poster selected from all the presentation in the session.

The prize winning poster was titled ‘Performance of Quadruple Precision Eigenvalue Solver Libraries QPEigenK and QPEigenG on the K computer’. It received the award because of the demonstrated excellent performance of the QPEigenK library for calculating eigenvalues in quadruple precision on the K supercomputer, as well as for the research and development behind the QPEigenG library which allows generalized calculations of eigenvalues in quadruple precision. The excellence of the libraries was demonstrated by comparing results from the K supercomputer against benchmarks, as well as in practical use in computations undertaken in collaboration with AICS at RIKEN.
